Acupressure Points for Insomnia
Acupressure can relieve insomnia and enhance sleep by applying pressure to specific points on the body. The following are the commonly used acupressure points to relieve insomnia that you can do on your own. Instead of pressing with your fingers, you can also use acupressure stick. Once you learn this simple self-care technique, you can use it anywhere and anytime.
Fengchi (GB20)
Fengchi, also known as Wind Pool, can be used to relieve insomnia. It is located behind your earlobe, toward the top of your neck and the base of your skull. Use your thumb or forefinger and apply pressure or you can do circular motion with finger.
Wangu (GB12)
Wangu, also known as Completion Bone, can be helpful to problems such as headache and insomnia. It is located in the zone at the anterior 1/3 of the skull. Use your thumb or forefinger and apply pressure or you can do circular motion with finger.
Taichong (LR3)
Taichong is an acupressure point which can be used to reduce depression and insomnia. It is located on your foot about two finger widths above the place where the skin of your big toe and the next toe join. Use your thumb and apply pressure or you can do circular motion with thumb. You may feel a little soreness. This procedure should have been repeated for the other foot.
Hegu (LI4)
Hegu, also known as Union Valley, can be used to relieve headaches and stress due to insomnia. It is located on the highest spot of the muscle when the thumb and forefinger are brought close together. Use your thumb and apply pressure or you can do circular motion with thumb. This procedure should have been repeated for the other hand.
