He Huan Pi covers meridians of heart and liver. Main functions include calming the nerves, resolving depression, invigorating the circulation of blood to heal carbuncle. Common uses and indications are malaise, depression, insomnia, traumatic injury. Recommended dosage is from 10 to 15 grams.

He Huan Pi is widely used in Chinese herbal formulas. 1) He Huan Yin is formulated for chronic non-healing lung abscess. Its ingredient herbs include He Huan Pi and Bai Lian. 2) Huang Hun Tang is used for lung abscess manifested as cough with slight fever, dysphoria, scaly dry skin on chest.
