Ru Xiang is native to East Africa and Arabia. It is harvested in spring and summer. Ru Xiang covers meridians of heart, liver and spleen. Main functions are activating vital energy and blood circulation, decrease swelling, promoting granulation tissue. Common uses and indications include aching heart, abdominal pain, wind-damp causing arthralgia, amenorrhea, dysmenorrhea, traumatic injury, boils and carbuncles, appendicitis, non-healing sore. Recommended dosage is from 3 to 10 grams.
Ru Xiang is widely used in Chinese herbal formulas. 1) Huo Luo Xiao Ling Dan is used to improve symptom management for stagnation of qi and blood, gynecological mass in abdomen, heartache, abdominal pain, soreness in arms and legs. Its ingredient herbs include Ru Xiang, Dang Gui, Dan Shen and Mo Yao. 2) Ru Xiang Ding Tong San is used to improve symptom management for painful sores. Its ingredient herbs include Ru Xiang, Han Shui Shi, Hua Shi and Bing Pian. 3) Xing Xiao Wan is used to improve symptom management for cellulitis in the lower leg and others.
