Chinese Remedies for Common Cold
Chinese people use remedies to improve symptom management for common cold. These remedies can be used for general health maintenance as well. The following are the commonly used Chinese remedies for common cold that you can easily make at home.
1) Wind Heat Type Common Cold
Chinese Pear Soup
2-3 Chinese pears (or any kind of Asian pear)
2 tablespoons honey, or to taste
2 tablespoons goji berries
2 tablespoons Chinese sweet almonds
4 pieces Bai Mu Er
6 cups of water
How to cook: Soften Bai Mu Er in warm water for 15 minutes. Slice pears into several pieces. Bring water to a boil and add all ingredients, simmer for about an hour.
Chrysanthemum and Peppermint Tea
400ml of water
6g chrysanthemum
3g peppermint
15g rock sugar
How to cook: Boil the chrysanthemum with water. When brought to a boil, add in peppermint and crystal sugar, boil for 3 minutes.
2) Wind Cold Type Common Cold
Ginger and Brown Sugar Tea
600ml of water
8 slices of ginger (old ginger preferred)
2 tablespoons brown sugar, or to taste
How to cook: Put all ingredients into a pot and boil it for 10 to 15 minutes.
Hot Ginger Coke
4 slices of ginger
2 slices of lemon
1 can of coke
Yes, you read it right, boiled coke with ginger and lemon. It is not a traditional herbal formula, but it works well to relieve common cold symptoms. How to cook: Put all ingredients into a pot and boil it for 5 to 10 minutes.
